Hi everyone- m'names Todd. I just finished reading The Giver for the 32nd time. I'm pretty big into photography... and after I finished, I had an idea. It would be cool to do parts of The Giver in a photobased comic-esque thing. So basically using photos, along with the text, or narrative based on the text to accomplish the story.

Think this could work? any ideas on the matter?

I'm glad that this community exists. The Giver is my favourite book (despite and maybe even because of its low reading level). At any rate, I have [a tattoo] that I've designed to symbolize the book. I posted it a long time ago on a tattoo Lj community and it received a pretty mixed reaction, so it's absolutely ok if you think it's pretty much the worst thing you've ever seen and you'd like to smash my mailbox with a large bat (the sport equipment, not the winged mammal).

i highly recommend reading both Gathering Blue and Messenger. Messenger was so sad! i didn't want that to happen. but now i have an idea for a fic!! i have never published a fic on LJ before but i will give it a try once i write it :o)

now i am rereading the giver. it is so different now that i have read Messenger.

i do have one question though, for those who have read it (messenger) i know who jonas is in messenger, but is gabe there too? *is confused* maybe once i reread the giver i will know. i haven't read it since 8th grade!

So I decided to get this community going. I know some of you haven't read the books in awhile but that's okay. Give it a try.

Why do you think the color red is so heavily emphasized in The Giver? It's one of the first colors that Jonas sees and the only one he knows for awhile. Do you think there is a reason why she would pick that color above any other one? Red is a pretty powerful color in some situations. Any thoughts you might have or general discussion.

Some of the red colored objects he saw were people's faces, an apple, a sled, and Fiona's hair?

Don't be shy to post, comment or anything else! All are welcome!

I was wrong, the book after The Giver is not Into the Blue but it is entitled Messenger. Serves me right for not checking. Yeah, so sorry if you tried to look and didn't see it. My own fault. :(

I kind of created an userinfo but it does need some work. :)

Welcome to the very first community dedicated to the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. This community will also take into account another book called Into the Blue which details Jonas and Gabriel's fate.

All are welcome so come and post your thoughts, ideas, fanfiction, fan art, and etc.  Anything goes as long as it has to do with those two books. Come and join because The Giver fandom is sorely lacking.
